Mama Nors Kitchen is a family-owned Filipino restaurant at 642 Leila Avenue in Winnipeg. Since 2016, Mama Nor has cooked home-style Filipino food — silog breakfasts, rice meals, adobo, menudo and lechon kawali — in generous portions, served with friendly, family-style service.
Noralyn “Mama Nor” Pua, originally from Cavite in the Philippines, has been cooking since she moved to Winnipeg in 1991. In 2015 she made her homemade atsara — Filipino pickled vegetables — for a fundraiser at Truth Tabernacle Church. Church members loved it, and that inspired the family to start a Filipino catering business.
Mama Nor and her husband, David, took over a former restaurant space and opened Mama Nors Kitchen on April 1, 2016. Mama Nor is still the principal cook, making traditional Filipino dishes like adobo, pork menudo, dinuguan, bicol express, bopis, lechon kawali, bistek Tagalog and Mama Nors Pork BBQ, plus bangus, tilapia and other fish dishes.
We open early for Filipino breakfast — tapsilog, tocilog, longsilog, bangsilog and the Silog ng Bayan Overload — Monday to Friday 6 AM to 5:30 PM and Saturday 6 AM to 4 PM. Neighbours from the North End, West Kildonan, Garden City, Seven Oaks and Leila-McPhillips come for dine-in, takeout, pickup and delivery, and we cater family gatherings, church and community events with party trays and family meals.
